Precautions
- Charging Voltage Control: Keep charging voltage between 2.8V and 3.2V. Overcharging over 3.3V will lead to permanent capacity loss and internal battery damage.
- Avoid External Short-Circuits: Shorting positive and negative terminals produces high surge current, causing overheating and shortening battery service life.
- Do Not Solder Directly To Cell Body: High temperature will destroy internal seals. Please use pre-welded tabs or dedicated coin cell holders for installation.
- Observe Correct Polarity: Confirm positive (+) and negative (-) orientation during installation to prevent reverse charging.
- Do Not Heat Or Disassemble: Do not expose battery to temperatures higher than 85°C. Never burn, open or deform the battery casing.
Typical Applications
- Real-Time Clock (RTC) and SRAM memory backup in smart utility meters, laptops, and hand-held terminals
- Automotive keyless entry remotes, tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), and smart car keys
- Miniature medical monitoring devices, hearing aids, and wearable healthcare sensors
- Smart home IoT sensors, security alarm systems, and Bluetooth beacon tags
- Compact solar-powered electronic devices, digital clocks, and industrial controllers

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is the main difference between Panasonic CR1220 and ML1220?
A1: CR1220 is non-rechargeable primary battery (3.0V, ~35mAh). ML1220 is rechargeable manganese lithium secondary cell (3.0V,17~18mAh) designed for repeated charge/discharge backup power supply.
Q2: Can I directly replace non-rechargeable CR1220 with ML1220?
A2: Yes in physical size. But your PCB must have a matched charging circuit (2.8V~3.2V). Without charging circuit, ML1220 only works as disposable power source and cannot be recharged.
Q3: Are custom solder tabs and wire leads available for ML1220?
A3: Yes. We supply Panasonic ML1220 with vertical, horizontal, 2-pin /3-pin solder tabs, insulated wire leads and connector assemblies.
Q4: What charging circuit is recommended for ML1220?
A4: Adopt constant-voltage charging circuit, set output 3.0V ~ 3.1V, add current-limiting resistor to restrict surge current and avoid overcharge damage.
Q5: What alternative rechargeable coin cells are compatible with ML1220 footprint?
A5: Compatible form factor alternatives include Maxell ML1220, FDK ML1220. Attention: Different brands have slight difference in internal resistance and cycle life, verify charging parameters before mass replacement.
Q6: How many charge cycles can ML1220 support?
A6: ≥1000 cycles under 10% depth of discharge. Deep discharge will greatly shorten the service life of the battery.
Q7: What are the risks of improper use for ML1220?
A7: ⚠️ Danger Warning: Overcharging above 3.3V, short-circuit, heating over 85°C, disassembly or burning may cause swelling, leakage, fire or explosion. Strictly follow our specification and precautions.
Q8: What is the self-discharge performance of ML1220?
A8: Self-discharge rate ≤2% per year under 20°C environment, excellent for long-term RTC memory backup equipment.
Q9: Can ML1220 work continuously at extreme low temperature?
A9: Standard operating range: -20°C ~ +60°C. Capacity will drop obviously below -20°C, not recommended for long-term low-temperature outdoor equipment.
