Product Overview

The MS920SE-FL27E is a high-capacity rechargeable Manganese Silicon Lithium (MS) coin cell from Seiko Instruments (SII). Equipped with factory pre-welded FL27E surface mount tabs, this 3.0V battery delivers 11.0mAh capacity within 9.5 mm diameter × 2.1 mm height. It features excellent cycle performance and ultra-low self-discharge, suitable for RTC, SRAM backup, smart meters, automotive telematics and IoT devices.

Core Advantages

Special High-Capacity SE Grade Design

11.0mAh capacity, offering up to 70% longer backup time than standard 6.5mAh 920 coin cells.

Advanced Manganese Silicon Lithium (MS) Chemistry

High energy density, low internal impedance and stable voltage during long-term discharge.

Pre-Welded FL27E Solder Tabs for Automated SMT

Original FL27E lead terminal design, supporting automatic PCB assembly and avoiding thermal damage to cells.

Superior Overcharge Tolerance & Long Cycle Durability

Stable performance under continuous trickle charge, effectively preventing capacity attenuation over repeated charge-discharge cycles.

Precautions

  • Charging Voltage Regulation: Keep charging voltage between 2.8V ~ 3.3V (recommended 3.1V-3.2V). Voltage over 3.4V will shorten service life and may cause internal cell failure.
  • Soldering Notice: Do not solder directly on the cell casing. Only perform wave or manual soldering on the original FL27E solder terminals.
  • Series Current-Limiting Resistor: Install a series current-limiting resistor in charging circuit to suppress excessive initial charging current after deep discharge recovery.
  • Polarity Check: Confirm positive (+) and negative (-) PCB pads before assembly to avoid damage caused by reverse charging.
  • Temperature & Mechanical Restrictions: Do not heat the battery above 85°C, avoid open flame, and prevent mechanical extrusion, impact or disassembly.

Typical Applications

  • Extended Real-Time Clock (RTC) and SRAM memory retention in smart utility meters and industrial controllers
  • Automotive telematics, eCall emergency positioning modules, dashcams, and OBD tracking units
  • Smart home IoT sensors, security alarm touchpads, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons
  • Handheld medical instruments, wearable health trackers, and portable measurement equipment
  • Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, electronic shelf labels (ESL), and smart digital appliances

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is the main difference between MS920T-FL27E and MS920SE-FL27E?

A: They share identical dimension (9.5 mm × 2.1 mm) and FL27E tab configuration. MS920SE-FL27E is high-capacity variant with 11.0mAh; MS920T-FL27E is standard 6.5mAh version with wider temperature range.

Q2: What does “FL27E” mean in the model number?

A: FL27E refers to factory pre-welded SMD solder tab terminal, designed for automated PCB SMT assembly.

Q3: Can MS920SE-FL27E work with 3.0V / 3.3V RTC circuits?

A: Yes. Nominal voltage is 3.0V, suitable for 3.0V~3.3V RTC, SRAM backup systems. Float charge voltage must be controlled between 3.1V ~ 3.2V.

Q4: Is MS920SE-FL27E a direct replacement for MS920T-FL27E?

A: Mechanically compatible, same footprint. Electrically interchangeable for backup circuits. Note: SE version operating temperature is -20℃~+60℃, narrower than T model (-40℃~+85℃).

Q5: What are the charging precautions for MS920SE-FL27E?

A: Charging voltage limited to 2.8V ~ 3.3V, do NOT exceed 3.4V. A series current-limiting resistor is required on charging circuit to avoid overcurrent damage.

Q6: Can I directly solder iron on the battery metal casing?

A: Prohibited. Only solder on designated FL27E tab terminals. High temperature on cell shell will cause permanent failure or safety hazards.

Q7: What is the typical service life for RTC standby application?

A: Service life depends on quiescent current. Under low self-discharge RTC load, it can maintain backup power for several years with proper trickle charge management.

Q8: Does this coin cell have alternative cross-brand models?

A: No fully pin-to-pin equivalent alternatives. Other brand 920-size rechargeable lithium coin cells differ in chemistry, charging curve and cycle life, direct replacement is not recommended without circuit verification.
