Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What parameters do the “BBSTZ-165” suffix elements specify for the AD9889?

A: The first B = silicon revision stepping, second B = temperature grade group, ST = 80-lead LQFP tray package, Z = full lead-free RoHS compliance, -165 = maximum 165 MHz pixel clock rate.

Q2: Does the AD9889BBSTZ-165 require an external EEPROM to store HDCP keys?

A: No. The AD9889BBSTZ-165 features on-chip secure key storage pre-programmed at the factory, eliminating external HDCP EEPROM.

Q3: How does the chip handle EDID and hot plug detection?

A: It integrates I2C master for automatic EDID reading, supports CEA-861B standard HPD detection without extra MCU control.

Q4: Can the AD9889BBSTZ-165 connect directly to 1.8V low-voltage processors?

A: Yes, I/O supports 1.8V~3.3V logic, and HPD pin is 5V tolerant for legacy display devices.

Q5: What model can replace AD9889BBSTZ-165?

A: AD9889BBCPZ-165 has identical electrical specs with smaller 64-pin LFCSP, suitable for compact PCB layout.

Q6: Is license required for mass production?

A: Official HDMI and HDCP license must be obtained for commercial mass production equipment.

Q7: What is the normal operating temperature range of this IC?

A: Operating temperature range is -25°C to +85°C, applicable for both consumer and partial industrial equipment.

Q8: What length HDMI cable can this chip drive stably?

A: With built-in programmable pre-emphasis, it can stably drive standard HDMI cables up to 10 meters without signal distortion.

Q9: What is the difference between tray and tape & reel packaging?

A: BBSTZ suffix is tray packing for manual small-batch assembly; tape & reel version is available for full-automatic SMT mass production lines.

Q10: Do you provide free samples for AD9889BBSTZ-165?

A: We offer small quantity free samples for customer testing, customers only need to bear the international shipping cost.
