Product Overview

The IMX678‑AAQR1‑G is a 1/1.8‑inch 8.4MP 4K CMOS image sensor adopting Sony STARVIS 2 BSI architecture. This bare‑window‑G version has no built‑in cover glass, external optical filter bonding is required during module assembly. It features outstanding low‑light performance, high dynamic range and good NIR sensitivity for security surveillance, ITS, dash‑cam and machine‑vision applications.

Core Advantages

STARVIS 2 BSI Pixel Architecture

Lower pixel noise and wider dynamic range, delivering excellent low‑light color imaging performance.

True 4K Ultra HD High Frame Rate Output

Supports 3840 × 2160 resolution, RAW10‑bit up to 72 fps, RAW12‑bit up to 60 fps full‑pixel scan for sharp moving‑object capture.

Superior Near‑Infrared (NIR) Sensitivity

High quantum efficiency for 850 nm / 940 nm infrared spectrum, supports clear night‑vision under low IR auxiliary illumination.

Clear HDR & Multi‑Exposure DOL‑WDR Support

Multi‑exposure HDR modes suppress ghost and motion artifacts under high‑contrast outdoor lighting conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What are the main benefits of Sony STARVIS 2 for IMX678‑AAQR1‑G?

A1: STARVIS 2 delivers wider dynamic range, lower read noise and improved NIR sensitivity for high‑quality 4K imaging in low‑light and back‑light environments.

Q2: What resolution and frame rate does IMX678‑AAQR1‑G support?

A2: Active array 3856×2180 (8.40MP), recommended output 3840×2160 4K UHD. Full‑pixel scan: 72 fps for RAW10‑bit, 60 fps for RAW12‑bit.

Q3: What do suffix ‑G and ‑C mean for IMX678 series? Can they cross‑replace?

A3: ‑G is bare‑window without cover glass, requires external IR‑cut filter bonding. ‑C comes with AR‑coated cover glass. Silicon die and PCB pinout are identical. Footprint is pin‑to‑pin compatible, but optical performance differs. Direct replacement is not allowed without optical redesign.

Q4: What power supply rails are required for IMX678‑AAQR1‑G?

A4: Triple power rails: Analog 3.3 V, Digital core 1.1 V, I/O interface 1.8 V. Incorrect power‑up sequence may permanently damage the sensor.

Q5: What digital output interface does IMX678‑AAQR1‑G support?

A5: MIPI CSI‑2 (2‑lane /4‑lane /8‑lane), compatible with mainstream security SoC and ISP. I²C bus is used for register configuration.

Q6: What compatible or alternative sensors can replace IMX678‑AAQR1‑G?

A6: Sony IMX415: cost‑effective 8MP STARVIS 1 option, not pin‑compatible. IMX675‑AAQR: lower‑resolution 5.12MP STARVIS2. OmniVision OS08A10: competing 8MP 1/1.8 inch sensor. None are pin‑to‑pin drop‑in replacements, hardware redesign is needed.

Q7: Can IMX678‑AAQR1‑G work without external optical filter?

A7: No. This ‑G bare‑window part has no protective glass. Direct lens contact will damage silicon die. IR‑cut or optical filter bonding is mandatory during module assembly.

Q8: How can I get datasheets or volume quotes for IMX678‑AAQR1‑G?

A8: Submit Quick‑Inquiry form for official datasheets, pinout diagrams, sample stock and bulk pricing.
